Dave Grohl To Celebrate Hanukkah By Covering Jewish Artists For 8 Nights

Dave Grohl is hoping to brighten the end of 2020 with a rock 'n' roll-style celebration of Hanukkah.

The Foo Fighters frontman has covered Christmas songs in the past, but in a short video released Wednesday with Foos producer Greg Kurstin, Grohl said it was time he tailored his holiday output to celebrate Judaism.

Grohl and Kurstin will cover eight songs by Jewish artists and release one for each night of the Hanukkah festivities, starting tonight, Thursday, December 10, and ending on Friday, December 18.

“With all the mishegas of 2020, Greg Kurstin & I were kibbitzing about how we could make Hannukah extra-special this year,” Grohl explained via a social post. “Festival of Lights?! How about a festival of tasty LICKS! So hold on to your tuchuses… we’ve got something special coming for your shayna punims.”

It's not clear yet what songs Grohl and Kurstin are planning to interpret for their Hanukkah series. But the pair has an awful lot of great material to pull from.

Hall of Fame bands like Rush, KISS, Steely Dan, T. Rex, The Doors and Van Halen (with David Lee Roth) include Jewish-born band members. There's also Billy Joel, Bob Dylan (who later converted to Christianity) and Lenny Kravitz, among many others.

But Grohl is unlikely to stick to just rock artists. Outside of rock he has plenty of great options, including Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, Carole King, Barry Manilow, Barbara Streisand, Charlie Puth, Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman and Neil Diamond.

Grohl already contributed to a Christmas song this year when he played drums on The Bird And The Bee's cover of "Little Drummer Boy."

The Foo Fighters non-festive but still highly-anticipated 10th studio album, Medicine At Midnight, it due out February 5.
