Chris Stapleton's Soulful Vocals Shine In New Song, 'Cold'

Chris Stapleton is offering fans another glimpse at what's to come on his upcoming album, Starting Over, with the release of his new song "Cold" on Friday (September 25).

The new track starts with a smooth piano ballad played by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers member Benmont Tench, before adding some percussion, violin and acoustic guitar to accompany Stapleton's soulful vocals. "Cold" was written by Stapleton alongside his band members J.T. Cure and Derek Mixon, and producer Dave Cobb.

"Why you got to be so cold / Why you got to go and cut me like a knife / And put our love on ice?" Stapleton sings in the chorus. "Oh, girl you know you left this hole / Right here in the middle of my soul / Oh, why you got to be so cold?"

"Cold" will be included on Stapleton's upcoming new album, Starting Over, which is due out on November 13. The country star has already released the project's title track as the lead single.

Starting Over, recorded at Nashville's RCA Studio A and produced by Stapleton's longtime collaborator Cobb, was officially announced in late August. The new project will feature a total of 14 tracks consisting of 11 new originals and three covers which include John Fogerty's "Joy Of My Life" and Guy Clark's "Worry B Gone" and "Old Friends."

Stapleton's wife, Morgane, along with Tench and fellow Heartbreakers member Mike Campbell, will appear on the project. See the full track listing for Stapleton's new album, arriving on November 13, below.
