Las Vegas residencies are all the rage. Everyone from Elton John to Britney Spears has done one, but don't expect to see Paul McCartney's name in Sin City lights anytime soon â or ever.
During a recent interview with GQ, Macca was asked if he'd ever consider playing a run of shows in Vegas and his response was pretty blunt. âThatâs something Iâve been trying to avoid my whole life,â McCartney said. âDefinitely nothing attracts me about the idea. Vegas is where you go to die, isnât it? Itâs the elephantâs graveyard.â
What about following Bruce Springsteen's footsteps and performing on Broadway? The Beatles' icon doesn't like the idea of doing something that's already been done. âSome people would like me to do it, as they say Iâve got plenty of stories and plenty of songs, but one of the things thatâs holding me back at the moment is that Bruce has just done it, you know?â McCartney said.
âIt feels a bit like, âOh, suddenly Iâll do it now then!â So I think thatâs made me a little reluctant to follow in his footsteps or follow a trend.â
Though he's more open to performing on Broadway than in Vegas, McCartney admitted that he'd âjust prefer to play with the band to a bigger audience, or even smaller â I donât mind little clubs.
