Ryan Seacrest is a pure example of following your dreams: from Atlanta, Georgia, to Hollywood, the multi-hyphenate has paved the way for aspiring broadcasters and TV personalities alike across the globe. In a new commencement speech for grads in part with iHeartRadio's Commencement: Speeches For The Class of 2020, Seacrest shared you don’t always have to be the most talented person in the room, but you can be the most prepared.
“There is no doubt that this is not playing out as you envisioned, nor how anyone else envisioned it for you,” Seacrest shared, in honor of those graduating virtually amid the global COVID-19 pandemic. “But that does not, in any way, take away from everything you have accomplished. If anything, it further demonstrates your resiliency and your ability to handle whatever the future may hold.”
Seacrest added a favorite quote from poet John Ciardi as well as his own "code" to positivity and success.
“‘The day will happen whether or not you get up,’” Seacrest shared, quoting Ciardi. “Let me say it again: ‘The day will happen whether or not you get up.’”
Seacrest explained to take Ciardi’s wisdom as a wake-up call to make sure you happen to the day, instead of letting it happen to you.
“Every new day is a chance to get better, to be kinder, or to try something new,” he added. “Each new day can also push you to your limits, make you stumble or reduce you to tears. But no matter the circumstances, you still only get one shot to make the day matter. … Over time I developed my own set of ‘tools’ ... to bring a positive energy to each new day. Today, I thought I would tell you what works for me ... I call it “My Code.”
