Tucker Beathard Debuts 'I Ain't Without You,' Tribute To Late Brother Clay

Tucker Beathard shared a brand-new song at the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday night (February 22). The track titled, "I Ain't Without You" is a tribute to his late brother Clay Beathard, who was tragically murdered outside a bar in Downtown Nashville on December 21, 2019.

"My world was rocked in December. My little brother passed away," Beathard told the audience at the Opry. "I don't wanna say I lost him, because I know exactly where he is. But I think, sometimes in life, it takes getting pushed, getting tested to see what you're really made of, for your faith to really grow."

The singer went on to share that as a kid he'd thought about the possibility of one of his family members dying, admitting that at the time he didn't think he'd be strong enough to make it through that grief. "As bad as it sounds, I used to pray, like, 'God, please, let me be the first one in my family, because I don't know if I can handle it,'" he said.

"And then this happened. And I wasn't necessarily wrong. I can't. I couldn't. I'm not strong enough," he said. "But I underestimated the power of Jesus Christ and him getting me through."

Beathard's grieving process and deepened faith is what inspired "I Ain't Without You." Hear the deep-cut track below.

Earlier this year, Beathard also shared a tribute to Clay with a new video for his song, "Brother." The clip features photos and videos of Clay throughout his 22 years of life.

"I wrote this song right after my brother Clay graduated high school," Tucker shared on social media at the time, adding, "it was on my heart to write a song about the relationship dynamic between me and my brothers. This song has taken on a lot deeper meaning now that Clay is in Heaven. I know he's still watching over me. Psalm 27:1"

"Brother let me hold your trouble / When it gets too heavy / Let me fly when you're high / Let me sink like a stone / When you're low / Brother let me say / A little prayer for you / Take a sucker punch for you / I'd do anything for you / Yeah you ain't alone / Yeah I'll take on the world with you," Tucker sings in the chorus.

Clay had just finished his junior year at Long Island University where he also played football. In addition Beathard, he's also the brother to San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback C.J. Beathard. He is the son of famed country songwriter Casey Beathard and his wife Susan.
