Selena Gomez just dropped some surprising details about her new album.
During Mondayโs appearance (January 13) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Gomez revealed she recorded a never-before-heard track on her latest record, Rare, thatโs sheโs planning to release soon. Whatโs more, fans are speculating the unreleased song, titled โBoyfriend,โ is more or less of a hint that the pop star has a new man in her life.
โThere's a few other songs that I couldn't help but want to exist, so I can't really tell when,โ Gomez said, โbut one of my favorite tracks is called โBoyfriend,โ so I can't wait for people to hear that one.โ
Although Gomez didnโt go much more into detail about the record or when she intends to release it, fans will recall this isnโt the first time sheโs dropped a hint about the unreleased song. In an interview with WSJ. Magazine, one of the โLose You to Love Meโ starโs collaborators on Rare, singer-songwriter Julia Michaels, dished on writing a song with Gomez and fellow singer-songwriter Justin Tranter that didnโt make the final cut, called โI Want a Boyfriend.โ
While writing Rare, Michaels revealed one day she asked Gomez, โWhat kind of mood are you?โโ In a text, the musician replied, โIโm feeling strong and happy. โฆ I really just want a boyfriend.โ What came from the exchange was a track called โI Want a Boyfriend,โ of which Tranter dished: โOne of the lyrics is about a fine line between a want and a need. Yes, she wants a boyfriend, but itโs not a need. Sheโs OK on her own, and we all should be too.โ
In a video interview with the publication, Gomez said the song was her favorite sheโs ever written. She also revealed the track is about love and hardship and vulnerability. "Thatโs kind of what I want right now," she added. "Iโve been single for two years. Itโs maybe nice.โ
