Why DaBaby Was So Emotional After His New Album Debuted at #1

North Carolina rapper DaBaby is a relative newcomer, but he just ended Post Malone’s three week run at #1 on the Billboard Album 200 with his sophomore album Kirk, only a few months after the release of his debut album Baby on Baby.

It’s a major accomplishment for any artist, but taking the throne is particularly meaningful for DaBaby because of the near insurmountable challenges he’s faced this year.

On the same day his hit single "Suge" hit #1 on a streaming chart his father passed away unexpectedly.

He’s also dealt with an incredible amount of legal and personal drama along the way, so he took to social media to reflect on debuting at #1.

"When I got the news I took my time to let it sink in because this achievement’s different. Google me and see what I’ve been through in the past 12 months then ask yourself how I’m still standing on all ten toes. I put in Blood, Sweat, & Tears...God is great. WHATS NEXT?"

Kirk, which is DaBaby’s last name is out now.
