Mark Hoppus Describes The Joy He Feels When Connecting With Fans Onstage

Premiere Of Universal Pictures' "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising" - Arrivals

Mark Hoppus has been playing live shows with blink-182 for nearly three decades, but no matter how many stages he's stood on the connection he makes with each and every audience is a both a joyous and "humbling" experience for him. The pop punk pioneers have been on tour with Lil Wayne all summer, and as it winds down the bassist/singer took some time to share his thoughts and thank fans via Instagram.

"Something I’ve been thinking forever but needed to put into words tonight," he captioned a screenshot of a note he wrote.

"The power of music, and specifically live music. These shows. The moments we share in a venue together. The band and the audience. Words we wrote in a garage or studio or an idea scribbled down in the middle of the night, or written in the depths of self-doubt and despair. To sing songs and have those songs sung back to us. A shared experience between everyone. It’s amazing to see you smiling and laughing," he wrote. "Several times on this tour I’ve looked out during Adam’s Song and seen people weeping crying and holding their friends or spouses. Maybe remembering a lost friend or loved one, or a difficult time in one’s life. To have a song bring stranger together to rejoice, too mourn, to remember. It’s awesome and humbling and means the world to me. You all mean the world to me. Thank you."

After canceling their already rescheduled tour date in Columbus, Ohio, blink only have three more shows left on tour. They're also gearing up to release their eighth studio album, NINE, on September 20.
