Queen Celebrates Brian May's Birthday And 50th Anniversary Of Moon Landing

Queen + Adam Lambert At The Forum

We all know that Queen's Brian May is a legendary guitarist, but did you know he's also an astrophysicist? During a concert at The Forum in Los Angeles Friday night (July 19), May was able to celebrate two events near and dear to his heart: His 72nd birthday, and the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

As Ultimate Classic Rock reports, the guitarist strutted out to the end of the catwalk after "I Want It All" to address the crowd. "It's strange enough it's my birthday today," he said. "To tell you truly, there's no place I'd rather be than right here. Thank you for being with us here tonight."

Last month May helped pay tribute to the milestone by recalling where he was when Apollo 11 made history, which just so happened to be the house of future Queen drummer Roger Taylor.

"That night, we watched this tiny little screen on the Taylors' TV and were all clustered around," he said. "What I remember the most was that my dad was wrong. He was a pretty talented electronics engineer during and after World War II, and three years before Apollo 11, he said, 'Oh, we'll never get to the moon in our lifetime. It's technically too difficult.'"

"So to see this incredible event happening on television, something that Dad said was impossible -- it somehow made it all the more inspiring," he added.

Queen + Adam Lambert are currently on their North American tour. Check out a full list of dates here and see some photos from the L.A. show below.
