Mac Miller Dead at 26: Relive His Final Performance

Mac Miller has died of an apparent overdose, TMZ reports. The 26-year-old rapper, who struggled with substance abuse in the past and was arrested for a DUI in May, released his fifth studio album, Swimming, on August 3, and performed for what would be the final time at Hollywood's Hotel Café on September 3.

The rapper posted about his performance just yesterday (September 6), sharing a link to a YouTube video from the concert on his Instagram Stories. He was set to embark on tour on Octber 27.

The news comes just four months after the news broke of Miller and Ariana Grande's split, and following her engagement to now-fiancé Pete Davidson. In tracks off Miller’s album, Swimming, the rapper seemingly refers to the songstress numerous times.

In track “Buttons”, Miller raps "Days get mixed up, schedules get switched up, can't be in two places at once,” seemingly referring to their statement at the time which cited conflicting schedules as a reason for the split.

In “Small Worlds,” the rapper also seemingly acknowledges his ex. "I know I probably need to do better," he raps. "F--k whoever, keep my s--t together."

Following his DUI arrest, Grande released a statement defending herself after fans blamed his actions on their split.

“Mac Miller totaling his G wagon and getting a DUI after Ariana Grande dumped him for another dude after he poured his heart out on a ten song album to her called the divine feminine is just the most heartbreaking thing happening in Hollywood,” the fan tweeted, causing the “God Is a Woman” songstress to reveal their “toxic” relationship.

“How absurd that you minimize female self-respect and self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship because he wrote an album about them, which btw isn't the case (just Cinderella is ab me),” she wrote at the time. “I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be. I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming/blaming women for a man's inability to keep his s--t together is a very major problem.”

She concluded: "Of course I didn't share about how hard or scary it was while it was happening but it was. I will continue to pray from the bottom of my heart that he figures it all out and that any other woman in this position does as well."

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by Miller’s death.
