Watch Part One of Dave Grohl's Mini-Documentary 'Play'

posted by Andrew Magnotta -

After outlining his idea this spring, confirming it this summer and beginning to tease it a few weeks ago, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has released his mini-documentary, Play.

The film depicts Grohl's ambitious project to record a massive 23-minute instrumental song in which he records the parts of multiple instruments in one take.

When Grohl initially mentioned the project, he acknowledged that it might be a huge disaster that would never see the light of day. But apparently that was not the case, since the film appeared Thursday morning on the Foo Fighters' official YouTube channel.

You can stream Play above. The song will be available for download Friday, August 10.

Grohl famously wrote and performed nearly every part on the Foo Fighters' 1995 debut album.

Through a press release last week, Grohl said that one of the things that so fascinates him about music is how no one can truly master it.

"Watching my kids start to play music and learn to sing or play drums, it brings me back to the time when I was their age listening to albums, learning from listening," he said. "And when I take my kids to the place where they take their lessons, I see these rooms full of children that are really pushing themselves to figure this out. And even now, as a 49-year-old man, I'm still trying to figure it out...You're always chasing the next challenge, and you're always trying to find a way to improve on what you've learned."
