Arie Explains Why He Wouldn’t ‘Just Leave!’ While Breaking Up With Becca

It’s safe to say the season 22 finale of The Bachelor may have been the most shocking and dramatic yet. After proposing to Becca Kufrin and then breaking up with her on-camera weeks later, bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. proposed to runner-up Lauren Burnham during the After the Final Rose special.

Lauren accepted his proposal and defended the race car driver, reassuring fans that she has faith in her new fiancé.

But backtrack to Monday night when the shocking and devastating breakup aired between Becca and Arie and fans everywhere were seething. Not only because he blindsided Becca, but because he JUST. WOULDN’T. LEAVE!

Billboards have since been erected in Becca’s honor in her hometown of Minnesota making light of the drama. One in particular read: “Arie … not okay. Just leave.”

Ryan’s cohost Sisanie went in for the kill when Arie and Lauren B. phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday, March 7, and asked him why he wouldn’t just leave.

“I didn’t watch it back,” Arie said, adding: “But there was some production in that.”

Whether producers wanted him to keep confronting Becca or not, it seems all parties involved have since moved on.

“I was terrified,” Arie told Ryan of proposing again to Lauren during the special. “Lauren and I spent the day together before we headed to the taping and she could tell I was nervous and she thought it was about the confrontation I had to face with Becca, but it was me looking over my notes and looking over the proposal and just wanting to make sure it was perfect.”
