Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter is one of the greatest performers that the world has ever witnessed. This Black Music Month, we honor the superstar.

Born and raised in Houston, Texas; Bey would grow up to make a name for herself and down in music history. The soon-to-be icon first got her start in the group Girls Tyme. Kelly Rowland and LaTavia Robinson were in the group, too, and they would soon be joined by three other girls. As a performing act, Girls Tyme performed for the biggest talent show on TV at the time, "Star Search." Unfortunately, they lost the competition.

But, Bey used that loss to push her forward. She would soon form Destiny's Child with Rowland, Robinson and LeToya Luckett. As the group's members changed, Beyoncé stayed on track to fulfill her purpose of becoming a superstar. Years later, after being a part of one of the biggest girl groups of all time, Bey decided that it was time to spread her wings and fly solo. She did just that -- and soared higher than we ever imagined. And the artist isn't close to being done yet.

As a soloist Beyoncé continues to make history each and every single day in her incredible career. Her albums are Dangerously in Love, B'Day, I Am... Sasha Fierce, 4, Beyoncé and Lemonade; and each project is always better than the last.
