The Spice Girls Announce a New Musical
Girl Power will once again reign supreme in the new Spice Girls musical set to open later this year
If you’re wondering why “Spice Girls” was trending on Twitter, don’t worry, nobody died. This spice buzz is being brought to you by “Viva Forever,” a Spice Girls musical.
Yes, you heard right! A new musical based on the Spice Girls’ songs is set to open at the end of the year, according to the Telegraph.
For the announcement the ladies reunited on the iconic staircase where their “Wannabe” music video was set back in 1996, the single that launched them into super stardom. A fitting location considering that the video was released exactly 16-years-ago today. The group had not been back together since their 2008 reunion tour.
“I think the biggest artists in the world at the moment are all women,” said Mel C. (Sporty Spice) in an interview with the Telegraph on the stairs, “Beyonce, Rihanna, Jessie J., Adele, you know? Girl Power reigns.”
“I think the musical is testimony that girl power has longevity,” said Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), “and who would have thought, from 16 years later, that our songs and the message of it is still standing, it still carries on, just in a different way. It’s brilliant.”
The musical was written by comedienne Jennifer Saunders, whom Americans would recognize as the voice of Princess Fiona’s evil Fairy Godmother in “Shrek 2.”
“Viva Forever” is set to open at the Piccadilly Theatre in London on December 11, according to the Telegraph, but tickets are currently on sale for shows starting Nov. 27.
