Matthew Fox Lost 35 Pounds for Role in ‘Alex Cross’
Matthew Fox recalls his mother ‘begged to cook something for me!’
Watch out ladies, Matthew Fox is back on the big screen. Matthew Fox called in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” to talk about his shocking weight lose to play the villian in upcoming film “Alex Cross.” The suspense film is the sequel to “Along Came A Spider,” and “Kiss The Girls.”
Why Did You Do This Role? “I was pretty afraid of it, because there was a lot of challenges in it that I knew I was going to have to work really hard at it to pull it off.”
How Much Weight Did You Lose? “Somewhere between 35-40. Just the minute I read the script that was an image that popped into my head that this guy would be like that and be that stripped down and gaunt and sort of wirey in a slightly disturbing way. I went about trying to accomplish that.”
How Did You Do That? “It takes a lot of focus and discipline and not cheating. I had a lot of help. I met a guy in the UK who specializes in this, Simon Waterson. He structured a nutritional diet for five months and a workout plan. I had a lot of help, but you just got to stick to it and not cheat and be pretty focused.”
Gaining The Weight Back “I’ve gained about half of the weight back and I’m happy with where I am. I’m trying to maintain that. Where I was in the film was… My mother could just barely stand it. Every time I saw her she begged to cook something for me. That was tough. The kids. It’s such a gradual process over 5 months that it wasn’t until the end that my daughter started saying ‘Dad you look kind of gross.’ But they were patient with it. I told them what it was all about, and that I would gain weight back at the end of it so they were cool.”
Matthew is also joined on-screen with the multi-talented mogul Tyler Perry! Be sure to watch the film when it opens this Friday, October 19th.
