Listen to Whitney Houston’s New Duet With R. Kelly ‘I Look to You’
Music industry great Clive Davis has resurrected an unreleased track by Whitney Houston
It has been almost 8 months since the world lost an incredible woman and talent, Whitney Houston. However, music industry great Clive Davis, who discovered Whitney and was her mentor has resurrected an unreleased exclusive track of the singer along with singer/songwriter R. Kelly.
Clive called in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” on Tuesday to world premiere the powerful duet “I Look to You,” which he thinks will become a newly born classic. Take a listen below!
After Whitney passed away Clive became familiar with the recording that the singer had made when she had done the I Look to You album. The track was recorded after the singer had gone through intensive dental surgery to remove the nicotine from her throat.
Clive tells us: “She went into a studio by herself in Los Angeles and recorded two verses and a chorus of the song ‘I Look to You,’ which R. Kelly had written for her and for our album. I was just knocked out by it. To hear Whitney, as Whitney again, to hear her, the full flower of her voice it really showed the potential when she was ready to record again.”
When Whitney’s funeral was being planned Mr. Davis put in a call to R. Kelly to ask him if he would sing “I Look to You” at the funeral, which he did with a choir. “There was not a dry eye in the house,” Clive says.
Being conscious of Whitney’s legacy and a guardian of that legacy, Clive decided he wanted to put the two versions of the song together…the two verses and chorus that Whitney had sung, leading into the funeral performance of R. Kelly with the choir. Clive tells us when R. Kelly heard the recording of Whitney’s two verses and chorus he was floored by the performance.
“I Look to You” is available on iTunes and will appear on the upcoming I Will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston.
