Katy Perry Opens Up About Heartbreak & Starting Her Own Record Label

Katy Perry opens up about her divorce and her decision to start her own record label in the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter.

On dealing with the demise of her marriage to Russell Brand:

"There were times when what was going on in my personal life was so overwhelming that I had to bend over to let those tears fall straight out of my eyes and not my false lashes just as Im about to go up on that ramp and sing Teenage Dream," Katy says. "I had to smack myself across the face and say, These problems are my problems, they are not my audiences problems, learn to separate that."

On documenting her heartbreak in her new film: 

"Honesty has always worked for me ... so if it aint broke, why f---ing fix it?"

On starting her own record label:

"Im preparing for it now," she says. "And when this record label does come to fruition, Im going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success. As people are coming to me with opportunities, Im thinking, How would I want to be treated?"
