Ellie Goulding Performs Acoustic Version of ‘Lights’

British singer Ellie Goulding swung by our studio here just the other day to give us the scoop on her hit single "Lights" and gave us an intimate, stripped-down performance of the song as well!

On Her Single ‘Lights’: “When we released it in the UK, which was a while ago…it was the 6th or 7th single from my album. So, it was kind of at the point where I was ready to write a new album anyway. So, I didn’t put much into it, then all of a sudden it was like ‘Lights’ is on the radio a lot in the US and that was it, it started it rolling,” Ellie explains.

If you have ever tried to sing-a-long to this song, you know it’s not easy song to sing. Ellie told us: “It is really tough…I don’t make it easy for myself at all when I write my songs. If I write a song I’m like. ‘Yes, this is it!’ And then I’m like, ‘Oh damn, I have to play this live?’”

Who is ‘Lights’ About? “‘Lights’ is about me. I’m kind of afraid of the dark,” Ellie confesses. “It’s gotten better now, but I used to not be able to sleep with the lights off. I used to share a bedroom when I was younger with my 2 sisters, when I was like 18. Then when I went to University and I was by myself I couldn’t bear it, because it was weird that I was by myself. I still find it quite weird.”
