Adele, Fiona Apple, Katy Perry and Rick Ross All Eligible for Academy Awards
Who will take home an Oscar?
According to the first list of songs eligible for a Best Original Song nomination at the 2013 Oscars, Adele, Fiona Apple, Katy Perry and Rick Ross are all in the conversation. Yes, Mr. Rozay. Making 32908 music videos is finally beginning to pay off.
Although she’s been away from us for the last six months or so, Ms. Adkins is in the running for her Skyfall theme, while Fiona Apple gets acknowledged for “Dull Tool,” from the upcoming This is 40 and Ross’ “100 Black Coffins,” from Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, could be coming to you live from the Oscar stage in February. Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” received Grammy nominations last week, and is also eligible for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards following her full-length concert film/documentary.
While Perry would undoubtedly do something to spice up the award show’s red carpet and potentially give John Mayer a second turn at purse-holding, there are other scenarios we’re more interested in seeing on February 24, including: Adele making a glorious post-baby return to the live stage with a chilling live performance of her Bond theme or Rick Ross performing shirtless and drinking Ciroc with Leonardo DiCaprio at the Vanity Fair party. Between these four, and 71 other contenders (Variety has the full list), the possibilities are endless.
