Katy Perry

Former Christian gospel singer Katy Hudson changed her name and her approach to become a world famous pop star - the newly christened Ms Perry embraced controversial sexual titillation with singles "UR So Gay" and particularly "I Kissed A Girl", and quickly got the attention she craved.
Breakthrough "I Kissed A Girl" became a No.1 hit in more than twenty countries, but provoked a fierce debate about whether it encouraged promiscuity or lesbianism. It was also a huge shock for Katy's family and small Christian fanbase, including her mother Mary, a Christian preacher, who described it as "shameful and disgusting."
Follow-up single "Hot N Cold" was almost as successful, again topping charts and Top 5ing across the world. Meanwhile, One of the Boys, her debut album under the name Katy Perry, didn't do quite so well, going gold in the US but receiving mostly poor reviews.
