Lil Wayne pleads guilty in gun case

Rap superstar Lil' Wayne plead guilty to a 2007 gun possession charge after striking a deal to avoid a lengthy prison sentence, according to an online report.

The 'Lollipop' hitmaker is due to stand trial in January on second degree felony charges of criminal weapons possession and criminal possession of a loaded weapon, following his arrest in New York two years ago when cops found a firearm on his tour bus.

Wayne, who entered a not guilty plea earlier this year, is facing up to 15 years in prison for each count if he's convicted of the crimes.

The star, real name Dwayne Carter, Jr., maintains the gun is registered to his manager Cortez Bryant, but prosecutors claim to have DNA results which link the rapper to the weapon.

He returned to a Manhattan courtroom on Wednesday when representatives from the New York District Attorney's office argued their case to include the use of the DNA evidence in the upcoming trial.

Under the terms of the reported deal, Wayne will serve eight months behind bars and will turn himself into authorities in February to begin the prison stint.

However, it's not the end of Wayne's legal problems - he's due to stand trial in March on drug possession charges after another arrest in Yuma, Arizona in January 2008.
